Shop By Shape

Permanent magnet manufacturing has advanced immeasurably since the first alnico magnets were produced in the 1930s. Traditionally, magnets were produced in horseshoe and bar shapes but today they can be supplied in almost any shape. Here, you can browse our entire range by magnet shape.

TRADITIONAL SHAPES

These products are our basic shapes and consist of ‘hard’ raw magnets without any additional treatment or assembly, other than the coating they are supplied with.

SPECIALIST SHAPES

We also stock a range of specialist shapes for specific applications not available from other UK magnet suppliers.

TOP HAT

Named ‘top hat’ magnets because of their innovative shape they are specifically designed for use in retail and point of sale displays as they can be pushed through holes and secured in place to provide a flush magnetic face.

ARC

Arc magnets are commonly used as part of the rotor or stator assembly in electric motors and generators and can be magnetised with their opposite pole of the flat surfaces or inner and outer radiuses.

MITRE

Also designed for use in electric motors, the mitred magnet can be supplied with either pole on the mitred face. This unique design means the magnetic field leans towards the shortest side creating an unequal flux pattern not achievable in other shapes

MAGNET ASSEMBLIES

Each of the following shapes are an adaptation of our traditional shapes used within an assembly to increase performance or create specific characteristics.

POT

Pot magnets consist of either our neodymium or ferrite disc magnets encased in an outer steel shell. The steel shell focuses magnetism on one magnetic face to provide the ultimate clamping force. They can be supplied with a variety of fixings and attachments.

CHANNEL

Very similar to pot magnets, channel magnet assemblies consist of our rectangular ferrite magnets encased in an outer steel shell to increase the clamping force. Channel magnets are supplied with pre-drilled holes for fixing in place.

HOOK & EYEBOLT

Our magnets supplied with hooks and eyebolts are made from either neodymium or ferrite pot magnets supplied with additional hook or eyebolt attachments. You will also find moulded plastic hooks with super-strong neodymium magnets in this section.

SKITTLE

Our skittle magnets are all made out of strong neodymium magnets in a moulded plastic or chrome skittle shape. Their shape means they can be easily handled and repositioned, and what’s more, they are available in a range of striking colours and finishes.

ADHESIVE BACKED

Self-adhesive and strong magnets make a great combination as together they can be used to turn any flat surface into a magnetic surface. Fix, build and hang almost anything with self-adhesive magnets.

FLEXIBLE MAGNETS

Flexible magnets are made from magnetic particles held together within a flexible polymer binder. Flexible tapes are manufactured by extrusion whereas continuous flexible sheets are produced using a calendering technique. Our magnetic tapes and sheets are available in a variety of widths, thicknesses and finishes.

DOT & RECTANGLE SHEETS

Ideal for your child’s art project and creating personalised fridge magnets these flexible self-adhesive magnetic dots and rectangles can be simply peeled off their backing sheet and stuck to any surface.

A4 SHEET

The flexible magnetic sheets in this category vary and include printable sheets, dry-wipe sheets, coloured PVC laminated sheets and even a magnetic chalkboard.

TAPE

Flexible magnetic tape with self-adhesive is widely used for secondary glazing and creating retail signs and displays. Our tapes are available in widths of 12.5mm, 19mm and 25m

LARGE METRE SHEET

Specifically designed for printing magnetic signs and displays these large sheets can be cut to size and are supplied by the metre.

GUIDE TO CHOOSING THE RIGHT SHAPE

Choosing the correct magnet shape is mainly reliant on the application for which it will be used and how it will be fixed in place. For example, it is much easier to drill a circular hole than a rectangular one, a reason why disc magnets are so popular. In some applications, it is necessary to fix a magnet in place from the front and therefore a countersunk magnet is the ideal choice, while in other applications the magnet must be fixed from the back and a threaded stud is required.

Length vs diameter – Disc or rod magnet?

The length to diameter ratio is the relationship between the length and diameter of a magnet. If you increase the length of a magnet so it is equal to the width of its diameter it will produce the optimum magnetic strength for the size and type. This is also true for stacking magnets on top of each other. If five disc magnets are stacked together they will form one longer magnet. Each magnet added will increase the overall strength and depth of field until the length (or height) of the stack exceeds the diameter. If further additions are made, they will only generate small additional amounts of strength. The depth of field will continue to increase until the length reaches approximately three times the size of the diameter. At this point, further increases in length would have little effect on the depth of field produced.
