How To Secure Canal Boat Doors With Pot Magnets

Each month we receive various emails from our customers demonstrating the use of our magnets. Recently we have been receiving more stories about customers using our magnets in various modes of transport and in this particular case, a canal boat!

We were pleased to hear from one of our customers, Bob, who got in contact to share his creative yet very practical use of our magnets on his canal boat!

Bob is amongst a number of volunteers from the Cotswold Canals Trust, who work tirelessly on restoring the Cotswold Canals. Like many canal boat owners, Bob was looking for a way to keep his canal doors secure when they were open, and he came to the team asking for magnets that would work for this application.

With help from the team, Bob purchased x2 32mm dia x 8mm thick x 5mm c/sink N42 Neodymium Pot Magnets which perfectly suited his application. Due to the strength of the magnet, this ensured the doors were kept open securely. What’s more, the magnets are coated with three layers of nickel, copper and nickel to reduce corrosion, which is provided the perfect fixing method for an outdoor environment.

The countersunk magnets were screwed in place to the canal boat, and as the outer shell of the doors are made from steel, this allows them to attach securely to the magnet and remain open.

As you can see, the canal boat doors attract flush to the steel frame allowing for the doors to remain securely open without the risk of movement.

We would like thank Bob for taking the time to share his magnet story with us and for taking some incredible photos of the magnets in action!
