A magnet keeper is a bar made from iron or steel. They are placed across the poles of a permanent magnet to help preserve the strength and close the magnetic circuit, which stops any external metal from being attracted to the magnet.
We use them as a safety function for when we send out our magnets in the post.
Due to keepers being used to closing a circuit they can be fiddly to remove, with this in mind we have created some videos to show you how to remove them safely.
Small Magnets
Here demonstrates how to remove a keeper from a smaller sized magnet.
The magnets used in this demonstration are our 25 x 10 x 3mm thick N42 Neodymium Magnet.
Large Magnets
Next, we have demonstrated how to remove a keeper from a larger magnet.
The magnet used was one of our Ferrite Recovery Magnets, these are commonly used in magnet fishing.
Strong Magnets
Finally, we wanted to demonstrate how to remove a keeper from one of our stronger magnets.
This magnet again is one of our Ferrite Recovery Magnets, but this one has a 130kg pull!
